DescriptionThe whole story▼
Five model names on one part number, and the reason is one engine family. Yamaha's CP2 twin ran in the MT-07, the Tracer 700 and the XSR700, and the exhaust arrangement is close enough that the converter for one serves them all.
Key Features
- Covers five Yamaha model names across eight model years
- Needed by the Racing Line S-Y7R5-HEGEH to keep its EC approval
- Honeycomb metal carrier with palladium, rhodium and platinum
- Akrapovic records an EC approval against it
- Also a replacement when an original has failed
One Sentence in the Small Print
The Racing Line for these Yamahas is type approved, with a single qualifier attached: the certificate applies while a converter remains in the system. Remove it and the qualifier bites.
So a road-going MT-07 needs both numbers on the same invoice. Chasing flow by leaving the converter out turns an approved exhaust into a circuit-only one, immediately and permanently.
Replacement, Not Only Upgrade
Ten years is a long service life for a component that runs red hot several times a week. Substrates crack under repeated heating; a period of over-fuelling glazes the coating and nothing brings it back.
What an owner notices is a hollow spot high in the range, a loose rattle beneath the engine, or a test station's printout. None of that can be diagnosed by eye — which is equally the reason not to buy one second hand.
Precious Metal, Invisibly Applied
Inside is a honeycomb of thin metal foil, and across its surface sits a wash coat holding palladium, rhodium and platinum. The chemistry happens there: poisonous gas enters, carbon dioxide and water vapour leave.
Those metals set the price, and none of them can be seen. That is precisely why provenance matters on a part like this.
Sized for the System, Not for the Shelf
Every converter obstructs. Akrapovic's claim is that its own are dimensioned to obstruct as little as the emissions test permits, so that the exhaust around them still behaves as designed.
Worth remembering when reading the Racing Line's dyno numbers: they were taken with this component installed.
The Engine That Sold Everywhere
The 689 cc CP2 twin is one of the most common engines on European roads, and the MT-07 has been a best-seller since 2014. Parts availability for it matters more than for most machines, simply because there are so many of them.
A Component, Not a System
The box contains a single converter. Nothing else — no muffler, no header set, no connecting pipe. It finishes an installation that something else began.
Eight Model Years
2014 to 2021, after which Yamaha revised the platform for Euro 5+ and later machines take different parts. The registration document settles which side of that line a given bike falls.
Road Approval
An EC approval is recorded against this converter. Fitted to the Racing Line it is the basis on which that system stays legal on a public road.
