DescriptionThe whole story▼

Selling a motorcycle privately involves a moment of trust: a stranger asks for a test ride, and you hand over the key. Most of these rides end without incident, but a bike can go over when an unfamiliar rider pulls away with too little throttle or stops on a camber at the end of the drive. The R 1200 RS, BMW's boxer-engined sports tourer of 2015 to 2018, changes hands privately quite often these days. If a test ride leaves its brake lever bent, Accossato's AGD305 is a black replacement in the original form.

Key Features

  • Replacement brake lever, original type, for the BMW R 1200 RS
  • Accossato lists it for 2015 to 2018, ABS
  • Black
  • Operates the front brake from the right grip
  • Designed by Accossato for a fair price-to-quality ratio
  • Accossato: the way it is made gives greater resistance after damage or a crash
  • Single lever
  • No German ABE or test mark on file; for racing and competition

Construction and Material Quality

What matters after an incident like this is that the bike looks right again before the next viewing, and a spare of the original type does exactly that. The AGD305 follows the pattern of the factory lever, so the cockpit of the R 1200 RS keeps its standard appearance. Accossato created these levers to offer value for money and credits its production process with increased resistance after damage or collisions. The colour is black, as listed for this model; technical data beyond that are not published.

Before You Hand Over the Key

A few ground rules protect both sides. Agree beforehand, ideally in writing, who pays for any damage during the test ride, and ask to see the rider's licence before the engine starts. Some sellers ask for the asking price in cash as a deposit, others follow on a second bike. Let the rider sit on the R 1200 RS and try the controls while it is still on its stand, and point out where the drive slopes or the gravel is loose. If the bike does go over, stay calm and look at it together: note the damage, take photos and settle the cost of the parts on the spot. A bent brake lever is not something to straighten and pass on to the next buyer. Replace it, grease the pivot lightly, and check with the bike standing still that the brake light comes on as soon as you pull and that the pressure point is firm and consistent before anyone rides it again.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the R 1200 RS, Accossato gives the AGD305 for the ABS bikes of 2015 to 2018. It is the only replacement lever on Accossato's list for the model, so no replacement clutch lever is named. We carry the same black lever for the R 1200 GS, the R nineT and the K 1600 GT. If you prefer a tuning part for the brake side of the R 1200 RS, Accossato's CNC levers EDB001 and EDB077 are the alternatives, and ESB002 is listed for the clutch. Compare the photo with your own lever before you order.

Road Approval

We have no test or approval documentation for the AGD305, so there is no German ABE or test mark to show. It is offered for use in racing and competition.
