DescriptionThe whole story▼
In a dry spell, a motocross track can polish into hard-pack with barely any grip, especially on the racing line where rubber builds up. On a KTM 450 SX-F, with a big four-stroke's pull to manage and plenty of speed to shed, braking into corners on that surface becomes a matter of feel. The B8283, Accossato's brake lever for the 450 SX-F of 2014 to 2022, gives three fingers a short blade and can fold at its joint when the front tucks on the hard-pack.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the KTM 450 SX-F, 2014 to 2022
- Takes the place of the stock lever on the front brake master cylinder
- Anti-break joint: blade can fold forward in a crash
- Short blade for three fingers
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black, blue or orange blade on a dark base
- Supplied as one lever
- No German ABE documented; for motocross and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
Of Accossato's two off-road levers, the B8283 is the brake-side one and the shorter, made for three fingers. Its two pieces, a dark base on the master cylinder and a coloured blade, are milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075 and linked by the joint that lets the blade fold. The company's reasoning for the alloy is short: it wants strength, low weight and reliability, and 7075 is among the strongest aluminium grades in general use.
Dry, Slick and Hard-Packed
On a slick track, the front tyre gives little warning before it slides. Riders on the 450 SX-F learn to brake earlier and more progressively, to use the rear brake and engine braking more and to keep the front brake light as they lean the bike in. The line matters as much as the lever: loose material at the edges of the track often offers more grip than the shiny racing line, and some riders move out to find it.
Falls on hard-pack come quickly. The front tucks as the rider turns in, and the bike hits the ground on its right side, sliding on a surface almost as hard as concrete. The brake lever takes the impact and then scrapes along. A solid lever may break at the first contact. The joint on the B8283 gives the blade a chance to fold forward out of the way, so there is a fair chance it still works when you pick up the KTM 450 SX-F and restart. It is no promise, since hard-pack is hard on any part, but it can be the difference between a lost position and a lost race.
Fitment and Compatibility
The B8283 is listed for the KTM 450 SX-F from 2014 to 2022, replacing the original brake lever. The 2013 bike is not covered on the brake side, but the C7283 folding clutch lever is listed from 2013 to 2022. Black, blue and orange are available on both levers, and red is a clutch-lever option.
Road Approval
The 450 SX-F is built for the track, not the road, and the B8283 has no documented German ABE; it is for motocross and off-road competition.
Scope of Delivery
