DescriptionThe whole story▼
Much of the MT-07's popularity was earned in towns and cities. It is slim, light and eager from low revs, which makes it an easy companion in heavy traffic, and the Moto Cage version shares those talents. On a commute, though, the left hand works harder than anything else on the bike: every junction, every queue and every set of lights means another pull of the clutch. The Accossato ESY688 is a machined aluminium clutch lever for the MT-07 Moto Cage of 2015 and 2016, with an adjustable distance to the grip.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the MT-07 Moto Cage, listed for 2015 and 2016
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance between blade and grip
- Long blade for a lighter pull, offered in blue, gold, green and orange
- Standard length about 138 mm, available in every colour
- Anodised aluminium with a black hub
- Fixed blade, no folding joint
- Packed in an Accossato box
Construction and Material Quality
This lever is machined, not cast. Accossato mills it from aluminium on CNC machinery and then anodises it, so the colour becomes part of the surface rather than a layer sitting on top. That is useful on a bike that lives outdoors in town, where rain, grime and the odd brush against a wall or a bicycle stand are part of daily life. The hub, containing the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, is black on every version, and only the blade carries a colour. Along the blade there is no hinge, just one solid piece between your fingers and the pivot.
Rush Hour on the Moto Cage
A typical commute contains more clutch work than a whole afternoon on a country road. Pull away, change up twice, roll to a halt, wait, pull away again: on a busy route the lever may be squeezed hundreds of times before you arrive. If it stands far from the grip, each of those pulls begins with the fingers stretched open, and by Friday the forearm reminds you of it. Bringing the blade closer with the adjuster shortens that stretch and puts the friction point where your fingers already are. Length matters too. The further out along the blade you pull, the more leverage you have, so the long ESY688 lightens the effort for riders who spend much of their time in traffic. At longer red lights, selecting neutral and letting go altogether gives the hand a rest, whatever lever is fitted. For an MT-07 Moto Cage in daily use, a closer reach combined with a longer blade is usually the most relaxed set-up.
Fitment and Compatibility
The ESY688 appears on Accossato's list for the MT-07 Moto Cage and mounts where the original lever sat, at Yamaha's own clutch mounting; as the Moto Cage arrived for the 2015 model year, this product covers 2015 and 2016. Its counterpart for the right hand is the EDF016 brake lever, listed for the same model years and made in the same colours. If the controls of your Moto Cage have been replaced at some point, compare what is fitted with the photos before you order.
Road Approval
Accossato has no German ABE on record for the ESY688, and we sell it on that basis, as a part for the track.
