DescriptionThe whole story▼

Most Z800s on the road today have plenty of years and kilometres behind them, and a clutch that has been slipped through countless junctions. How long a clutch lasts has a lot to do with how it is used, and that starts with the lever. The Accossato ESK828 is a clutch lever for the Kawasaki Z800 of 2013 to 2016. CNC-machined from aluminium and anodised, it fits the original clutch mounting, and its span can be set so the clutch is clearly in or clearly out, rather than somewhere in between.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the Kawasaki Z800, 2013 to 2016
  • Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
  • Adjustable span to the grip
  • Anodised aluminium, hub black
  • Blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
  • Short, standard (about 138 mm) and long, not every length in every colour
  • Fixed blade, no folding joint
  • Track use: no German ABE documented

Construction and Material Quality

On a Z800 that is kept for years, the finish is what sets a machined lever apart. After CNC machining, the ESK828 is anodised, which converts the aluminium's surface into aluminium oxide, a hard, dense film that shields the metal beneath and holds the colour. The hub, housing the pivot and span adjuster, is always black; the blade is coloured to your order. There is no folding joint to wear or collect dirt, because the lever is one rigid part.

Sparing the Clutch Plates

Every time the clutch slips, its plates rub against each other and turn movement into heat. Some slip is unavoidable when pulling away, but riding with the clutch partly engaged for longer than necessary wears the plates and heats everything around them. Two habits keep this to a minimum. First, when the fingers are not needed, take them off the lever: resting them there with even slight pressure can let the clutch slip under load without you noticing. Second, at a long stop, select neutral and release the lever instead of holding it in. A well-set lever supports both. On the Z800, adjust the ESK828 so the bite point comes with the fingers comfortably curled and the lever can be let go cleanly, without the hand searching for a position. If the bite point starts to wander over time, or the clutch slips under hard acceleration, have the clutch and its adjustment checked by a workshop.

Fitment and Compatibility

Listed as Z 800 in Accossato's catalogue, the Kawasaki Z800 of 2013 to 2016 takes the ESK828 at its original clutch mounting. For the right hand, Accossato makes the EDF021 brake lever for the same four model years. Ordering both in one colour gives a matched pair, and different lengths on the two sides are just as possible.

Road Approval

Accossato documents no German ABE for the ESK828; accordingly, the lever is sold for the race track.

Scope of Delivery
