DescriptionThe whole story▼
A rock step, a fallen branch, the lip of a rut: away from the tarmac, the F 800 GS meets obstacles that its front wheel should not hit head-on. Experienced off-road riders lift it over them with a short, well-timed burst of drive, and that burst is delivered by the clutch. The ESB008, Accossato's machined aluminium clutch lever for the F 800 GS of 2008 to 2018, can be set close enough to the grip that the blade stays under one or two fingers when you ride standing up.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the BMW F 800 GS, model years 2008 to 2018
- Mounts at the original BMW clutch mounting
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm in every colour
- Short blade for two-finger use in blue, gold, green, orange and silver
- Anodised aluminium, machined on CNC equipment
- Fixed blade on a black hub
Construction and Material Quality
Off-road riding is part of Accossato's history: the company won an enduro world title in 1985. The ESB008 is milled from aluminium on CNC machines and anodised, black at the hub and in the colour of your choice along the blade. Pivot and reach adjuster sit together in the hub. Between hub and tip there is no folding joint, so the lever responds in the same way whether you are seated on a smooth road or standing on the pegs in a rocky gully, and the bite point does not shift.
Lifting the Front Over an Obstacle
The technique is easy to describe and takes practice to time. Approach the obstacle standing, in first or second gear, at a steady walking or jogging pace. Just before the front wheel reaches it, pull the clutch in briefly, raise the revs a little, then let the lever out quickly while you move your weight back and pull lightly on the bars. The burst of drive lightens the front, so the wheel rolls up and over instead of striking the edge; as soon as it is across, bring your weight forward again so the rear wheel can climb after it. All of this happens within a fraction of a second, with one or two fingers on the lever while the others hold the grip, and it is far easier when those fingers do not have to reach. Set the ESB008 accordingly, practise on something the size of a kerb in a safe place away from traffic, and only then try it on the trail with your F 800 GS.
Fitment and Compatibility
The ESB008 covers the F 800 GS from 2008 to 2018. Accossato names the bike in several entries, one of which runs on past the end of production; because this generation was built until 2018, that is where the product stops. The lever replaces the original at the stock clutch mounting. The F 800 GS that BMW introduced for 2024 is a different motorcycle and not included. For the front brake, Accossato offers the EDB001, listed for the same 2008 to 2018 bikes.
Road Approval
We sell the ESB008 for track use, as no German ABE is documented for it.
