DescriptionThe whole story▼
The RSV4's V4 has one of the most recognisable voices among superbikes, yet many riders who spend time on one wear earplugs, on long road stages as much as on track days. With plugs in, the engine note that normally tells you where the clutch is biting is muffled, and the left hand has to find the friction point by feel alone. The Accossato ESV004 is a clutch lever for the RSV4 listed for 2009 to 2015 and 2017, milled from aluminium, with adjustable reach and three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Aprilia RSV4, listed 2009 to 2015 and 2017
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Blade in short, standard (approximately 138 mm) or long
- Seven anodised colours on the blade, black hub
- Milled from solid aluminium
- Rigid one-piece design, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented; offered for the track
Construction and Material Quality
Precise feel depends on a lever that moves only in the way you ask it to. The ESV004 is CNC-machined from solid aluminium as a rigid part without a hinge anywhere along its blade, so it pivots and does nothing else. Anodising then gives the aluminium a coloured surface layer grown from the metal itself: the hub, holding the pivot and the reach adjuster, is always black, and the blade is finished in one of seven colours.
Earplugs In, Feel Only
Riders learn the clutch with their ears as much as with their hands. The note dips as the plates start to grip, and that change is the cue to add throttle. Earplugs, a race helmet and wind noise take most of that cue away. What remains is feel: the moment the lever's resistance changes and the bike begins to creep. Feel is only reliable if the lever sits where your fingers expect it every time, and if the friction point falls within a comfortable part of the finger's movement.
Setting the ESV004 up for that is straightforward. Sit on the RSV4 in your riding gear, gloves on and plugs in, and pull the lever slowly a few times with the engine idling in neutral to learn its travel. Then, in first gear with the bike held on the brake, ease the lever out until you feel the bike tug, and adjust the reach so that this point lands with your fingers comfortably bent. The standard blade of about 138 mm matches the original length. The long blade, made in blue, gold, green and orange, spreads the engagement over more finger travel, which makes the friction point easier to sense through a thick race glove.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESV004 for the RSV4 from 2009 to 2015 and for an FW version of 2017, fitted at the original clutch mounting in place of the stock lever. The brake lever for the same bike is the EDF099, whose listing also includes 2021 to 2023; for those later years Accossato does not name this clutch lever. The ESV004 also appears for the RS 660 and for several other RSV4 versions.
Road Approval
An ABE for Germany is not documented for this clutch lever; our shop lists it for track use.
