DescriptionThe whole story▼
For many riders of smaller build, the Yamaha MT-03 is the first bike that feels truly manageable, light enough to push around the paddock and easy to hold upright. When such a rider takes the MT-03 to a circuit, the footrests have two jobs: support a sporty posture in the corners, and still let a short leg find the ground in the pit lane. Accossato's FT087 is an adjustable aluminium rearset listed for the MT-03 of 2015 and 2016. It moves the pegs back from the stock position, and Accossato gives the shift as standard or reversed depending on the model.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato, the company that took an enduro world title in 1985, describes the FT087 as simple and functional, and that is a fair summary. It is made of aluminium. The pegs are knurled, the gear lever and brake pedal have knurled tips, and aluminium heel guards give the heels a firm edge to rest against. Accossato calls the set adjustable without explaining the mechanism in its product text. For a small rider this is worth checking in person: once the kit is on the bike, sit on it and see where your feet land before deciding on the final setting.
Short Legs and the Pit Lane
Riders of smaller build often discover something unexpected after fitting rearsets. With the pegs further back, the path of the leg to the ground changes. When you come to a stop, the foot has to pass the peg on its way down, and a calf or shin can catch on it if you drop the foot straight down out of habit. In the pit lane, at the exit light or when rolling into the paddock, that is precisely the moment a short rider needs sure footing, because the bike is upright but slow. The answer is practice rather than hardware. Get used to sliding the foot forward off the peg before lowering it, and put the left foot down first so that the right one can stay on the brake pedal. Once you are moving, rearward pegs show their value: with the weight on the balls of the feet, it becomes easier to move across the seat of the MT-03 and to hold on with the knees, so that the arms can stay relaxed.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FT087 for the MT-03 in the 2015 and 2016 model years. Its description states the shift as standard or reversed depending on the model, so if the reversed pattern matters to you on the MT-03, ask us before ordering. A reversed pattern is a racing convention; on the road it would be unusual. Installation is a job for a workshop. The mechanic sets the length of the shift linkage so that the gears engage cleanly, adjusts the brake pedal so that there is a little travel before the rear brake bites, and confirms that the brake light comes on. Yamaha's torque values and its advice on thread locker apply to every fastener.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no Teilegutachten are documented for the FT087, so the kit is sold for track use and not for the MT-03 on public roads.
