It is easy to read the medium ladder as one cloth woven progressively tighter, with the numbers falling as the threads close up. That is not what happens between the standard panel and this one. The P08 is a woven fabric, made of threads crossing at intervals; the P14 is a nonwoven mat, a mesh of fibres laid in a random web with no weave pattern at all. Two different materials, made two different ways — which is why both figures move so far, and why the price does not follow the fineness.

Two materials, not two settings of one

A woven cloth filters in the gaps its threads leave; a nonwoven filters through the depth of a fibre web, where the path a particle must take is not a single opening but a tangle of them. That difference explains the size of the jump in both directions at once — much finer retention, much lower rated flow — in a way that no amount of tightening a weave could. It also explains why the ladder is not a price ladder: what a medium costs reflects the material and the process behind it, not how small a particle it catches.

What that means on a Monster

Retention and flow are a trade and never a ranking; a 14 µm mat is not a better filter than an 80 µm weave, it is drawn for dirtier air. On a naked roadster the honest question is whether the air is genuinely loaded — dry unsurfaced roads, building work, farm traffic as a routine — because if it is not, the standard weave is the correct part and this one is an unnecessary restriction. And neither of them is a power part: an element in an unmodified airbox leaves a standard Monster 937 exactly as strong as Ducati homologated it.

Care and cleaning

Service on the PM207P14 is an air line held against the clean side and worked outward, so what the mat has collected leaves along its entry path. Where that is not enough, hand-warm water with a mild detergent clears it, rinsed through until the water runs off clean. Then room-temperature air alone — no hot-air gun, no radiator, no flame, since heat ruins the fibre web silently and permanently. The element returns to the box dry and untreated.
