The Enduro is the Multistrada that was built to leave the tarmac and stay off it — a 19-inch front wheel, longer travel, and a thirty-litre tank that exists for one reason: to put a very long way between you and the next fuel stop. That tank sets the standard for every consumable on the bike. If the range says three hundred and fifty kilometres between petrol stations, the service parts had better not need a dealer more often than that. The Sprint Filter P08 PM127S is cleaned rather than replaced, which takes the air filter off the list entirely.

Dust is what actually limits the range

Fuel is the easy problem; the tank solves it. The harder one is that a gravel road loads an air filter far faster than the odometer suggests, and paper traps that dust well and then holds it permanently. On a long unsupported route a paper element you loaded on day two is a compromise for the rest of the trip unless you carried a spare. Twice the filtering surface delays it, and a washable medium ends it — out, blown through from the clean side, back in dry, five minutes.

No oil, deliberately

An oiled cotton filter looks like the obvious choice for dust until you consider what it needs: washing, full drying, and re-oiling in the correct quantity. That is not a roadside job, and an over-oiled filter puts a film into the intake tract that causes faults far more expensive than the filter. A dry element has no step in which it can be done badly.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air from the clean side outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame. Refit dry. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
