A Separate Part for a Separate Bike
The R's cockpit differs enough from the standard V4's that JetPrime lists a dedicated body. Fitting the general version is the kind of shortcut that costs an afternoon.
Built Around a Rule
World Superbike caps four-cylinder capacity at a litre, so Ducati shortened the Stradale's stroke to 998 cc. Everything else about the R follows from having to make that engine survive 16.500 rpm.
A Dry Clutch, Again
Ducati had removed dry clutches from its range years earlier and put one back on the R. It is lighter, it handles repeated racing starts better, and it makes the noise people associate with the marque.
The Last Plastic in the Cockpit
Carbon panels, titanium fasteners, forged wheels and an adjustable chassis. The moulded throttle assembly sits directly in the rider's eyeline and is conspicuously the one component that came from ordinary production.
Milled to a Tolerance
A machining centre holds the throttle bore to a dimension a moulding tool can only approach. On an engine whose fuelling is mapped this finely, the difference reaches the ECU.
Contacts That Are Sealed, Not Covered
The elements are enclosed within the body itself rather than protected by a clipped lid. On a bike washed with a hot jet after every session, a lid is an invitation.
Anodised Through
The black is grown into the aluminium electrochemically rather than sprayed onto it. Against carbon and raw titanium it reads as another finished surface rather than as a painted one.
Nothing Is Cut
The unit uses the factory connector. On a homologation motorcycle that may eventually be sold to a collector, an unmodified loom is worth more than it costs.
Two Hundred and Twenty-One Horsepower
With the racing exhaust fitted. The road figure is lower and nobody who buys an R leaves the standard system on it for very long.
