DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ES 011 answers the side stand input on the Panigale 899, which is what the engine controller reads before it decides whether the motorcycle may run in gear.
Key Features
- Ducati Panigale 899 (2014–2015)
- Answers the side stand input
- Lets the engine run in gear with no stand fitted
- Plugs into Ducati's own connector
- Nothing cut, nothing spliced
- Standard switch refits at any time
A Hundred and Ninety-Three Kilograms
Wet, which was competitive and heavier than the 1199 despite the smaller engine. The chassis differences account for most of it.
Answered, Not Bridged
The unit presents the state the controller expects. A length of wire across the terminals presents something else and frequently earns its own warning.
A Paddock Stand Instead
Competition bikes are supported by a stand carried in the van, which is lighter and catches on nothing at any lean angle.
Clean the Connector First
Opening the plug, cleaning the contacts and packing them with dielectric grease sometimes buys another year and costs nothing to try.
A Bike Left Outside
Motorcycles parked in the open lose these faster than anything else, because the component is closest to the ground and furthest from shelter.
Keeping the Standard Switch
Even a failed unit belongs in the parts box, because it makes the refit straightforward and a buyer will ask to see it.
No Software Involved
Nothing is flashed, adapted or written to any controller. The part works entirely through the state it presents at the connector, which is why it needs no setup and behaves identically on the first ride and the hundredth.
Why Switches Fail
The unit sits at the bottom of the motorcycle, on the left, directly in the path of everything the front wheel picks up. Salt gets into it, a pressure washer finishes the job, and the contacts eventually read intermittently. The symptom is an engine that cuts out on a left-hand bend, which is memorable.
The Middleweight Panigale
Ducati built this one as the accessible superbike, and a large number of them have spent their weekends on circuits rather than their weeks on commutes. That is the population the side stand eliminator was made for, and it is why these machines turn up with the stand already in a box.
