DescriptionThe whole story▼
The 899 was Ducati's argument that a Superquadro did not need 1,200 cc to be worth riding, and it drew a crowd of owners who actually use the thing on track days. That is where the standard ignition barrel starts to grate: a key, a lock, a bracket and a lump of steel sitting high on the top yoke where you least want mass. The JetPrime JP KS DU005 deletes all of it and leaves a sealed button in its place.
Key Features
- Removes the factory ignition block from the Panigale 899 entirely — no key, no barrel, no lock
- Sheds roughly 350 g from the highest, most forward point of the chassis
- Housing cut from solid Ergal billet, not cast, then anodised
- Push button sealed to IP69K, the highest ingress class in the IEC scale
- Includes the Key Box for the 899's immobiliser: the original key sits inside it, wired to the antenna
- Bolts to the standard mounting points — nothing drilled, nothing spliced
Where the 350 g Comes From
Weight at the steering head is the most expensive weight on a motorcycle: it sits above the roll axis and ahead of the steering axis, so it works against you twice on turn-in. The Ducati ignition assembly — barrel, lock body, mounting plate and loom tail — accounts for about 350 g of it. Replacing it with a machined button and a small key housing that can be tucked under the tank moves that mass off the yoke.
The Immobiliser Question
The 899 runs a coded key, so simply unplugging the barrel would leave the bike immobilised. JetPrime supplies the Key Box with this kit: an Ergal housing that holds the original Ducati key and connects straight to the immobiliser antenna. The security system stays intact and stays happy; it just no longer lives in the cockpit.
Fitment and Compatibility
JetPrime builds one switch per platform, which is why this carries its own part number rather than a universal one. Confirmed for:
- Ducati Panigale 899 (2014–2015)
Road Approval
None. Removing the ignition lock and relocating the immobiliser interface takes the motorcycle outside its type approval. The JP KS DU005 is sold for closed-circuit and competition use only, and fitting it to a road-registered 899 will make that machine non-compliant.
Before You Order
Check which key your 899 carries. Ducati fitted a coded key with an immobiliser antenna ring around the barrel on European bikes; the Key Box in this kit is what keeps that system alive once the barrel is gone. If your 899 has already had the immobiliser deleted by a race loom, the Key Box simply goes unused — the switch itself works either way. Worth knowing before the bike is on the bench.
