DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ES 018 A closes the HP4 Race's airbox where the secondary air hose used to leave it.
Key Features
- BMW HP4 Race 1000 (2017–2018)
- Closes the secondary air port in the airbox
- Machined from solid aluminium
- O-ring sealed against the airbox wall
- Needed once the hose has been removed
- Standard fitting refits at any time
The Hole Nobody Thinks About
Deleting secondary air means taking a hose off the airbox, and that leaves an opening straight into the intake tract. Unfiltered air entering there is worse than the system ever was.
What This Is
A machined plug that seals the port against an O-ring, so the airbox is closed properly rather than covered with tape or a rubber cap that will not stay.
Why Tape Fails
The airbox sees pressure changes on every throttle movement and heat from the engine below it. Anything adhesive lets go eventually, usually without being noticed.
Seven Hundred and Fifty Motorcycles
BMW built the HP4 Race as a carbon-framed, carbon-wheeled machine that was never road legal. It cost as much as a house deposit and every one of them was sold.
A Carbon Frame
Not a carbon panel over an aluminium structure, but a main frame wound from carbon fibre. Nothing else on sale to the public has been built that way before or since.
Two Hundred and Fifteen Horsepower
From a hand-built version of the S1000RR four, with a titanium exhaust and race electronics. It is a World Superbike machine with a serial number.
Machined, Not Moulded
Aluminium turned from solid with the groove cut into it. On a motorcycle built entirely from race components, a rubber bung would look exactly as wrong as it would perform.
Fitted With the Rest
The plug goes in while the airbox is already off for the cylinder head work. Doing it later means taking the tank off a second time for no reason.
Reversible
The original hose and fitting refit whenever the standard arrangement goes back, with nothing consumed and nothing cut.
A Track Machine Already
The HP4 Race was never homologated for a road, so the usual questions about type approval simply do not arise on this one.
