DescriptionThe whole story▼
CH12055 is the carbon pair that covers the CBR600RR's swingarm. The swingarm sits directly in the path of everything the rear tyre picks up and directly under the chain, which makes it the second most abused piece of aluminium on the motorcycle after the frame.
Key Features
- Left and right swingarm protectors, supplied as a pair
- Carbon laminate, prepreg inner face, autoclave cured
- Covers the surfaces exposed to chain fling and stone strike
- Exposed weave finish, no clearcoat
- Direct fit, no modification to the swingarm
The Chain Is the Real Threat
Stones mark a swingarm; a chain can ruin one. A chain that comes off at speed — from a broken link, a seized master link or simply an adjustment that went unchecked — whips against the swingarm with enough force to gouge aluminium, and on a race bike the chain runs closer to its limits than on a road machine. A protector will not save a swingarm from a serious chain failure, but it absorbs the routine contact that happens long before that: the light slap of an under-tensioned chain on the overrun, which happens every time a rider closes the throttle hard.
Fit Them While the Swingarm Is Clean
These go on best at the start of a build, before the swingarm has a season of chain lube baked onto it. A protector fitted over an already contaminated surface traps that contamination underneath, where it stays damp and works at the aluminium out of sight. If the bike has already done a season, degrease the swingarm properly and let it dry before fitting rather than covering the problem up.
Cleaning
Chain lube collects here and it collects grit with it. Wipe the protectors when the chain is cleaned rather than at the annual service — the paste of lube and grit that builds up is mildly abrasive and works at the laminate over a season.
Fitment
Listed by Carbonin under the PC69 in their dealer catalogue. Ask us if you would like the fitment confirmed against your swingarm before ordering.
