DescriptionThe whole story▼
A retro bike is easy to get wrong with an aftermarket exhaust — a modern hexagonal can on a Z900RS looks like a mistake. Akrapovic drew this one as a classic racing muffler with a modern execution, finished in black coating over lightweight titanium, and kept the EC and ECE type approval so it can simply be fitted and ridden.
Key Features
- Classic retro racing muffler shape, adapted rather than copied, drawn to sit inside the lines of the RS
- Black coating over lightweight titanium — a finish that suits the bike's own colour schemes instead of fighting them
- 0.9 PS (0.7 kW) more at 8,200 rpm and 1.0 Nm more at 5,250 rpm
- EC and ECE type approved, certificates supplied
- Straightforward installation with no remapping
- Noise insert included for track days with a limit
- Can be taken further with the optional stainless steel header E-K9R3, which raises power and torque and deepens the note
Form First, Then Numbers
The measured gains here are modest — 0.9 PS and 1.0 Nm — and this listing is not going to inflate them. On a Z900RS the reason to fit an Akrapovic is the shape and the sound, and the numbers are a small bonus rather than the argument.
Akrapovic does not publish a weight figure for this system, so none is claimed here. If the weight matters to your decision, ask before ordering rather than assume.
Going Further
The optional stainless steel header, E-K9R3, is a separate item. Akrapovic states that fitting it raises power and torque levels beyond what the silencer alone achieves and delivers a deeper sound. It is the natural second step for an owner who wants more than the slip-on gives.
The SE, and the Years Behind the Numbers
Kawasaki added the Z900RS SE in 2022 with gold Öhlins at the rear, Brembo Stylema calipers and its own paint. Mechanically the exhaust side is unchanged, so this silencer fits the standard RS and the SE equally, and the black finish sits with either colour scheme rather than fighting the SE's green.
The measurements published here were taken on a 2018 Z900RS, the first model year. The engine has not changed since, but a 2025 bike is a different specification of motorcycle around the same figures, and that is worth saying rather than implying one dyno sheet covers eight seasons.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-K9SO5-HBAVTBL covers the Kawasaki Z900RS and the Z900RS SE from model year 2018 through 2025. It connects to the original header without modification.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable from this page. Fitted on its own, without the optional header, the silencer is a legal road part in the European Union.
