DescriptionThe whole story▼
A Racing Line that keeps its road approval. Akrapovic welded the catalytic converter inside the muffler instead of leaving it out, which is why this complete system carries EC and ECE certificates where most racing systems carry none.
Key Features
- Complete system built in one piece from high-grade stainless steel, formed with high-end shaping technology
- Catalytic converter welded inside the muffler — the reason the approval holds
- EC and ECE type approved, plug-and-play, no remapping required
- Two handmade carbon fibre covers with a double outlet and honeycomb exhaust protection
- Akrapovic logo in red and white on the covers
- 6.31 kg against the standard 7.27 kg: 1.0 kg and 13.2 per cent less
- Drawn from the concept Akrapovic showed at EICMA in 2024
Why the Weight Saving Is Modest — and Deliberate
13.2 per cent is well below what a decatted titanium racing system would show. That difference is exactly what you are paying for. Keeping the converter inside means the exhaust gas is still treated, the ECU sees what it expects, and the motorcycle passes an inspection without an argument.
Stainless steel rather than titanium is the second half of the same decision: heavier, but able to carry a welded-in converter and survive the heat cycling that comes with it.
One Piece, Shaped Not Assembled
The system is formed as a single stainless component rather than welded together from sections. Akrapovic states that this comes from the concept shown at EICMA in 2024, and on an MT-09 — a naked bike with nothing hiding the exhaust — the absence of joins is the visible part of it.
The honeycomb mesh inside the twin outlets is the same exhaust protection the company fits to its Grand Prix machinery.
MT-09 and Tracer 9
Yamaha's 890 cc CP3 triple runs in the naked MT-09 and the sport-touring Tracer 9. They share the engine, the frame and the exhaust route, so one system covers both. The FZ-09 is the same motorcycle under its North American name.
Why This Matters for the MT-09
The MT-09 has always attracted owners who want a full system, and until now that meant choosing between a road-legal slip-on and a track-only Racing Line. This system removes that choice: a complete exhaust with the character of a racing part and the paperwork of a road one.
Nothing else on the motorcycle changes. The engine management stays standard, no remapping is required, and installation is around 45 minutes.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-Y9R22-HKKSS covers the Yamaha MT-09 and Tracer 9 for model years 2025 and 2026. For the earlier generations the corresponding parts are S-Y9R15-HAPT/1 for the MT-09 and S-Y9R13-HAPT/1 for the Tracer 9 — different systems that do not carry over.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The system is a legal replacement for road use in the European Union.
