DescriptionThe whole story▼

Some motorcycles are bought as toys and some are bought as tools. The BMW G650GS was mostly the second kind: a single-cylinder machine with a low seat and an even temper, ridden to work, loaded up for a fortnight abroad and taken out in weather that keeps other bikes in the garage. Accossato's Sintered (ST) version of the AGPA92 front pad belongs to that way of using one. It is listed for the G650GS from 2009 to 2015, and its argument is that the front brake behaves the same whatever the sky is doing.

Key Features

  • Sintered (ST) front pads for the BMW G650GS, article number AGPA92ST
  • Model years 2009 to 2015, front wheel
  • Accossato describes a high and constant grip level, cold pads or hot
  • Still answers with water lying on the disc
  • One box, two pads, the single front caliper filled
  • The same outline is also made in a milder Organic (OR) material
  • The rear of this bike takes the AGPP91 pad, catalogued 2009 to 2015
  • No German ABE documented; supplied for competition riding

Construction and Material Quality

Of the materials available on the AGPA92 plate, this is the one for riders who do not choose their weather. Accossato describes a level of grip that stays high and stays put, whether the pads are cold from a night outside or warm from a descent, and that is not disturbed by a wet disc. There is a second consequence the company names across its range, which is that limiting the heat a pad generates keeps fade at a distance. On a bike with one front disc, where there is no second caliper to share the work, both properties are felt directly at the lever. The box contains the pair a caliper takes.

No Fair-Weather Machine

Riding through a whole year teaches a rider what a brake is really like. In January the discs are cold, often damp and sometimes lightly rusted after a night in the open, and the first application of the day has to clear all of that before anything bites. In July the same brake is slowing a loaded bike down a mountain road for minutes at a time. Between those extremes sit the days that do the actual damage: rain mixed with the film of oil and rubber that builds up at junctions, and the grit spread on roads in winter that finds its way into every caliper.

The maintenance answer is not complicated. Wash the bike after salted roads, paying particular attention to the calipers, and keep any oily product well away from the disc faces. Check what is left of the friction material at the start of the season rather than in the middle of a trip, and change the brake fluid on a schedule based on time, since it draws in moisture from the air whether the G650GS is ridden or not.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato catalogues the AGPA92 for the front of the BMW G650GS between 2009 and 2015. A single caliper works the front wheel, so one box is the complete job at that end, and both pads want changing at once. The rear wheel of the same machine is covered by the AGPP91 pad over identical model years, which makes a full refresh easy to order. The company lists no brake disc for the G650GS, so the discs on the bike are the ones these pads will run against.

Road Approval

Neither a German ABE nor any other approval paperwork for the AGPA92ST has reached us. We sell the pad for track and competition riding, and claim nothing more for it.

Scope of Delivery

One set of two AGPA92 pads in the Sintered (ST) compound, enough for a single front caliper.
