DescriptionThe whole story▼
The RA in the name of a CB 1000 R RA marks the version with ABS, and that changes how an owner should think about the brake fluid in it. The reservoir on the handlebar, the lever and the lines are familiar territory; the control unit further down the machine is not, and it is the reason a fluid change on this bike belongs with someone equipped to do it properly. Accossato's TS005 covers the part that is genuinely straightforward: the reservoir cap, machined from aluminium in seven anodised colours.
Key Features
- Front brake fluid reservoir cap for the Honda CB 1000 R RA
- Accossato's application years: 2008 to 2016
- Replaces the cap on the standard front reservoir
- Aluminium, machined on CNC equipment, anodised
- Seven colours: blue, black, orange, red, silver, green, gold
- FP004 oil filler cap listed for the same motorcycle
- No German ABE held here; supplied for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
The TS005 is cut from aluminium on CNC machines and anodised in blue, black, orange, red, silver, green or gold. Anodised colour is part of the metal rather than a coating, which is worth having on a component that sits in daylight and gets handled every time the bike is cleaned. Accossato makes the cap for the front reservoir fitted to the machines in its application list, so the brake on a CB 1000 R RA works exactly as it did before and only the cap changes. Once the original is off, look at the diaphragm underneath it; if it has hardened or torn, renew it before the new cap goes on.
Brake Fluid on a Bike With ABS
Everything around the reservoir can be done at home, and should be done carefully. Turn the bars of the CB 1000 R RA until the reservoir lies level, cover the tank and the instruments with a thick cloth, and keep water beside you, because brake fluid attacks paint and a splash has to be rinsed off immediately rather than wiped. Clean the top of the reservoir before opening it. With the cap away, check that the level sits between the marks and look at the colour of the fluid; a gradual fall as the pads wear is normal, a dark colour is not. Renewing the fluid, though, is where the ABS system changes the picture, since the fluid held in and beyond the control unit needs the right equipment and procedure to replace, and that makes it a job for a workshop working to the owner's manual. Close the reservoir promptly so the fluid does not take in damp air, fit the TS005 with gentle and even pressure, and pull the lever repeatedly while the bike stands still.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the TS005 for the front reservoir of the CB 1000 R RA from 2008 to 2016. It replaces the original cap and leaves the reservoir in place; where a different master cylinder has been fitted, the application list is the reference before ordering. Our catalogue carries the same cap for the CBR 1000 RR, the Kawasaki Ninja H2 and the BMW S1000RR, which gives a fair impression of how many machines share this reservoir design. For the CB 1000 R RA, Accossato also offers the FP004 oil filler cap.
Road Approval
Neither a German ABE nor a test mark for the TS005 has been provided to us, so the cap is offered strictly for racing and competition.
