DescriptionThe whole story▼
Naked machines turn up in more paddocks than people expect, and the standard Ducati Monster 1200, built from 2014 to 2021, is among them: a twin with a wide handlebar and a great deal of drive out of slow corners, which makes a club circuit genuinely interesting. Accossato covers its front wheel with the AGPA177 plate and offers this article, AGPA177EV2, in the EV2 racing material, described by the company as the strongest compound it presses. It belongs on a bike that is being ridden against a clock.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the Ducati Monster 1200, 2014 to 2021
- AGPA177EV2: the AGPA177 plate in the EV2 racing material
- Described by Accossato as the leading compound in its racing range
- Meant for race weekends and timed practice, not for the commute
- Each of the two front calipers needs a box of its own
- Two pads in a box
- Also available on this plate: ST, EV1 and ZXC
- No German ABE; sold for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Racing is the whole of the factory description here, and there is a certain honesty in leaving it at that. A compound built for the circuit is asked to hold up under repeated heavy use rather than to be pleasant at walking pace, and it is sold on exactly that basis. Everything structural stays put: the AGPA177 plate is the same component whichever of the four materials sits on it, so a rider can arrive at a meeting with two sets in the van and change over without disturbing anything else.
Two Sessions Back to Back
Club meetings rarely respect their own timetable. A rider can come in from practice, learn that the next class has been cancelled and be called out again forty minutes later on a machine that has barely stopped ticking as it cools. That is the situation a race compound exists for. The front of a Monster 1200 goes into the second session with discs that never dropped anywhere near ambient and a lever that has already moved through its working range several hundred times.
The routine in between is worth as much as the pad itself. Somebody looks into both calipers and reports what is left of the material. Somebody else holds a hand near the disc, without touching it, to judge how much heat is still in there, and the machine is left off the brake so it can shed that heat. Fluid gets checked at the start of the day and looked at again the moment lever feel changes. None of it is glamorous, and all of it is why a set of pads reaches Sunday afternoon in usable condition.
Fitment and Compatibility
The AGPA177 is Accossato's front pad for the standard Monster 1200 across 2014 to 2021. The 25° Anniversario of 2019 falls outside this entry and is served by the AGPA106, so a paddock order should name the exact machine rather than the model. Rear pads for the same bike are the AGPA42 over the same period, and the DK053 and DKS053 are the discs Accossato lists for it. With two calipers at the front, count two boxes per change, plus a spare pair when the weekend is a long one.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no test paperwork accompany the AGPA177EV2 in our records, and the pads are listed for competition use. On a racing material that is less a restriction than a plain description.
Scope of Delivery
Two AGPA177 pads in the EV2 material in one box, the set for one front caliper of the Monster 1200.
