DescriptionThe whole story▼
A big air-cooled V-twin pulls from very low revs, and the XV950 Racer can move off with barely more than tickover if the clutch is let out gently. That is one of the pleasures of the bike, and it depends entirely on the left hand. Accossato lists the ESY688 clutch lever for the XV950 Racer under the name XV 950 Bolt Racer, for 2015 and 2016. It is machined from aluminium, anodised in two tones and adjustable for its distance to the grip.

- One-piece fixed lever
Construction and Material Quality
A clutch lever is a simple machine: the pivot is the fulcrum, and the further out along the blade your fingers pull, the more leverage they have. Accossato uses that in the ESY688's three blade lengths, all machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodised, with a black hub and a coloured blade. Because the lever is fixed and made in one piece, none of that leverage is lost in a joint, and the blade responds precisely to small movements of the fingers.
Pulling Away on Tickover
Moving off without revving the engine is smooth, quiet and kind to the clutch, but it takes patience in the left hand. Let the lever out slowly until the clutch begins to bite, hold it there for a moment while the bike starts rolling, and only then release it fully and add throttle. If the engine starts to labour, pull the lever in slightly rather than opening the throttle hard. The whole manoeuvre happens in a narrow band of lever travel, so it matters that this band sits where your fingers are most sensitive. Set the ESY688's reach to put the bite point there, with the fingers curled rather than stretched. On the XV950 Racer, whose lower bars change the angle of your wrists compared with the cruiser, check that setting while sitting in your normal riding position rather than standing next to the bike.
Fitment and Compatibility
In Accossato's list the ESY688 appears for the XV 950 Bolt Racer, model years 2015 to 2016. It fits the original clutch mounting of the XV950 Racer and replaces the stock lever. The brake lever for the same bike is the EDF016, listed for 2015 and 2016 as well, and the two can be ordered in matching or contrasting colours.
Road Approval
German ABE: none documented. The ESY688 is therefore sold for track use.
